The Challenge:
The rapid emergence of GenAI presented an exciting opportunity for Capgemini to further strengthen its leadership in business and technology consulting. To harness this potential, Capgemini needed to ensure that all 340,000 employees could understand and effectively use GenAI, regardless of their initial familiarity with the technology. Embracing GenAI would allow Capgemini to continue delivering innovative solutions to clients and stay ahead in the competitive market.
The Solution:
Capgemini University, in partnership with Coursera, launched the Generative AI Campus to provide comprehensive global upskilling. This initiative focused on role-based, skill-based, and tool-based training, ensuring that employees at all levels could understand and apply GenAI in their work. The program included:
- Awareness Training: Basics of Generative AI, safe and ethical use, and Capgemini’s approach to GenAI.
- Advanced Learning Materials: In-depth courses on GenAI tools, roles, and skills, including content from Coursera.
- Flexible Learning: Integration with Capgemini’s existing learning platform, NEXT, allowing employees to learn in the flow of work.
This structured approach ensured that employees could gain relevant skills at their own pace, regardless of their initial familiarity with GenAI.
The Results:
The Generative AI Campus quickly enrolled over 100,000 learners, faster than any previous initiative, reaching employees in over 40 countries. It hosted 23 custom learning plans tailored to different roles and expertise levels.
Employees who completed Python and machine learning courses developed a Customer Engagement Dashboard. This tool improved sales teams' ability to analyze data, identify trends, and personalize strategies, leading to faster, more impactful sales performance.
In six months, Capgemini employees completed 100,000 courses, resulting in a threefold increase in GenAI-related client projects. This initiative equipped the workforce to leverage GenAI, maintaining Capgemini's leadership in business and technology consulting. The program promoted ongoing skill development and innovation, essential for future advancements.
In 2024, the company recorded that employees spent 38,204 hours learning AI skills, a 42% increase compared to the previous year. To date, the Generative AI Campus has helped more than 29,578 Capgemini employees master AI skills.
