This was a very helpful introductory course which helped me to understand further areas of study I need to pursue in order to be effective in this field! Thanks UC Davis, I really enjoyed this course.

The Coursera course content viewing attempts failed, crashed, or locked up repeatedly. In the two weeks of the course, I used a high-seed LAN connection, which was stable for all sites except Coursera. I counted the number of times that the video feeds crashed and had to be rebooted: 158 times.
The number of times that I heard any response from Coursera to repeated messages: ZERO
This is a 100% automated course with zero tech support or feedback. The “Report an Issue” message center yields zero response.
If you take this course, you have to deal with the repeated crashes by yourself. I found that it took more than 30 minutes to get a 7-minute video to feed.
The concept of online learning with multiple universities worldwide has great potentiall.
Unfortunately, however, due to the above chronic failures, I cannot recommend this course or platform to any of my friends.

The instructor must add a summary with strictly the most important details just before each week's quiz. There is a tone of unnecessary information! She should also try to be more energetic because really, I could hardly concentrate when I listened to her. The most important thing she must do is add a template for each of the following statements: "What you'll learn Critique the role of advertisements and corporate funding in the development of search Compare and contrast the functionality of search engine algorithms updates Write your own content for a website that will improve search results Develop an optimization strategy following best practices for a client to implement to help increase their ranking "

The course contents are several years out of date and presented in an unengaging manner. The PowerPoint presentations are rather poor and the audio quality is slightly inconsistent. There were some points where lecturers jumbled their words or stuttered but they didn't do re-takes. The exam questions aren't well selected and do not test one's understanding of SEO, rather, they test your ability to remember specific wording from the course. However, the course has some redeeming factors. Notably, they provide good, convenient links to further reading and learning materials. These links make it a good springboard for better SEO learning resources.

The organization of this course was ineffective. It started with careers in SEO, even though it hadn't yet taught us anything about SEO to give us an idea of whether those would be interest to us. It then spent a week on history involving a lot of memorizing names of people and systems which is not very practical. Then a ton of content was crammed into the second to last week and only a small amount into the final week. Over all, I signed up for an introduction to SEO but didn't learn much practical information about SEO, particularly from the videos. I would not recommend this course as an introduction to the skills of SEO.

I've been practically doing SEO for over 5 years now. I started with Internet Marketing and SEO when I was 14 years old.
I expected to learn some practical things. Unfortunately, this course is more of a "History" of SEO & Job Search than an introduction to SEO.
I feel doing the whole specialization would make sense, but not this course individually.
Almost no practical aspects of SEO were discussed. Pure theory.
The readings of the course have been carefully picked and are worth a read. It will take up the majority of your time and that'll be worthwhile.

This is very much a personal reflection but I would have benefitted far more from guided tutorials. While I know what factors to consider in SEO, I still wouldn't know where to begin with optimising. That might indicate a need to brush up on web development skills but I do think it would have been great to work through an example alongside the trainer.

It's somewhat harder to learn information and retain it when the speaker is stumbling over their content. Additionally, there are ways to show SEO optimization in a more interactive way. I think this course could be improved with a more thoughtful look at the content.

Course completion is very painful as 90% of the time ONLY THE COURSE PAGE DOESN'T LOAD. Everything else works fine. I tried N number of things, deleting browsing history cookies and cache, tried different browsers, checked connection but Nothing works.

This class seemed like a lot of filler and was a bit unecessary. All of the most important info in this class could be have been put together in a starter module for a more advanced class instead. I finished all four weeks of the class in 5 days. Meh.

The majority of the information is not useful in both academic or practical manner.
Too much is spent on career advice and historical review.
Very little value, theory or tactics is provided to anyone who needs to actually implement SEO.

Little real knowledge is provided, just a lot of links, without any skills or information that could be usefull. I am glad I only audited this course, otherwise it will be like losing money.

This was more like the history of SEO, you don't really learn too much about the hands-on technical aspects of SEO.
