About the Course

Through a series of engaging metaphors and stories, prospective and current EFL/ESL teachers will identify, summarize, and evaluate 7 basic language learning paradigms. Learners will be presented information on such foundational principles as motivation, risk taking, two different modes of learning, and balancing the teacher profession. Learners are also given an understanding of basic techniques founded on those principles, such as teacher talk, looking “ridiculous” in order to lower the affective filter, and networking. With these foundational principles in mind, ESL/EFL teachers will scrutinize common assumptions about language learning by comparing how they stack up to research-based core principles....

Simply amazing. Loved every single minute of it. I feel myself a much better teacher, I’ve learnt how to see resources to give a better class as well as offer my students better practices of learning.

Great course! Nice content and great presentation of the material. Useful not only for ESL teachers, but for all language teachers and even for teachers in general. Thank you for creating this course!

I just decided to quit, I don't want to be Don Quixote. I can't fight with a suspect of a potential plagiarism on the every step for eight courses, not when AI is around us, not worth of my nerves. I liked teachers' approach, teachers, materials ...everything else worked for me. A pretty disappointed. And need to check for my money return.

It's interesting, clear and useful. On the other hand, I found it quite repetitive in a sense that it has the same structure for every module and the questions repeat themselves so it can be boring sometimes and not very stimulating. The positive aspects are that you can do it at your pace, and that's a great advantage.

Content was good but it was really disheartening to work hard on an assignment and then be met with someone's feedback just being "I don't agree" or "Nice job." I tried giving legitimate feedback to people and to constantly be met with phoned in responses made me want to do the same.

It is really a start in the field. If you already have teaching experience you will get much more from the conversations in the forums than from the lectures. And if you have very little teaching experience or are interested in the field, it will give you a clear overview.

The lessons are easy to understand. But why do I have to sign up first for the free trial of another lesson before I can submit my work in Module 3? :( I availed financial aid and already paid the remaining 10%. I can't afford to pay more after the 7-day trial.

Pretty straightforward and easy for those who want to do it quickly. Though, I didn't really learn a lot. I would recommend having an advanced level of the same course for those who want something more challenging.

There are issues with submitting assignments (failure to process submission in Coursera).

Peer reviews may not be the best solution, as we have to wait a long time for our work to be reviewed!

I personally don't like the peer grading system, the uploading video and other things. People not used to it and made mistakes and the grading is just far away from accurate.

The content is great, but the course lacks support from the staff. It is also too easy to pass. I hope the reason for this is because the course was introductory.

The course presents valuable information, but I think the real content is too little compared to the length of the videos.

I thought the course was good although some of the material a bit basic but it definitely will help with my teaching.

I would make it a 5 but this course will not list on my "completed courses" and that annoys me.

Pretty basic stuff but you have to take it to advance to presumably more interesting material

So far so good. But the contents look getting older...
